Q: What is a ban?
A: A ban is something set by ShellsNet operators/admins that stops you connecting to ShellsNet.
Q: How do I tell if I am banned?
A: If you connect and get something like this, then you are banned.

Q: Why am I banned?
A: Usually, the reason for the ban is given in the 'BAN REASON' section shown to you when you connect.
Q: How long to bans last?
A: They usually last at least one day, but can last days, weeks, months, years or forever.
Q: How do I tell how long I have left until I am unbanned?
A: Email , include your IP, NICK!IDENT@HOSTNAME, and the ban reason, and *politely* ask how long your ban is set to last.
Q: Ok, how do I get unbanned?
A: Email akills at shellsnet dot org, and ask. Bear in mind very few people that are banned get unbanned, so you better should have a very good reason before asking for it.
Q: What about just changing my nick or username and rejoining, to get around the ban?
A: Doing this is known as 'ban evasion', and means you get banned for 3 times as long. Doing it repeatedly can cause you to get banned forever.

Q: What does "install identd" in the ban reason mean?
A: This means that you have to install identd before you can connect [identd guide][[Shellsnet_Backup_Old_action=edit&id=Identd_guide" class=wikipageedit>?</a> You can reconnect to <a href="index.pl?ShellsNet|ShellsNet]] after you install identd.
Q: What does "dnsspam.org" in the ban reason mean?
A: This means that your hostname is DNS SPAM, a violation of the ShellsNet hostname rules. Read the rules page for more information about dns spam, and why we don't permit it on ShellsNet. If you change your host so it is not spam, then you are allowed to connect.
