[edit] Overview

ClueSchool is a new project designed to teach people things as effectively as possible. There are many people who want to learn things on their own, but lack a structured or thorough environment in which to do so. ClueSchool has the following goals:

  • To teach what is not offered in typical schools, such as specific technical courses from a practical perspective.
  • To teach at an accelerated rate.
  • To teach in a more thorough way aimed at promoting understanding rather than memorization.

ClueSchool is a free service and taught by volunteers. We have an interface designed to be conducive to a constructive learning environment which is embedded in a web browser. It includes:

  • A live audio/video feed from the instructor.
  • Live chat feedback to the instructor.
  • Controllable presentation.
  • Centrally synchronized terminal viewer.
  • Presenter interface (for the instructor)

If you're interested in participating in ClueSchool as either a student or instructor, read one of the sections below.

Look at ClueSchool Classes for a list of courses and ClueSchool Seminars for a list of seminars.

[edit] Students

There is no clear division between instructors and students overall. Instructors just share what they have special knowledge in with other people, and may themselves be students in other lessons.

As a student, the first step is to get a Cluenet account. Access to the ClueSchool Moodle system is controlled via Cluenet accounts, so follow the normal instructions at Signing Up to get an account. You do not need SSH access, just a basic account.

Students are expected to be present at the scheduled classes, and do the assignments relating to the classes. At the accelerated pace of many of the classes, the assignments are necessary to understand the material. They are designed to be only what is necessary, and not to be busy work. The grades, as tracked by the Moodle system, may be used in the future to determine qualification for future classes.

[edit] Instructors

If you believe you have sufficient knowledge about a subject to teach a course on it, join ClueIRC and ask about it. A course should consist of at least 5 lessons at defined times. Each lesson should last at least around an hour, and should be full of actual content. The live audio/video feed is greatly preferable, and we can provide you with help in getting that set up.

The controlled presentations should be in the format of a series of HTML pages. A single file should contain a newline-separated list of URLs to the pages. The presenter interface will read the URL that it is given and load it as the slide list. There is also the capability to load URLs dynamically into the window.
